Purchasing BTFE on Ebay Part 2

Just a few weeks ago I wrote about purchasing BTFE on eBay.  To summarize the findings, there were many users on eBay selling BTFE, namely 123 sellers.  The par price for each Box Tops is $.10, while most of the sellers were offering between $.04 and $.32 each.  That’s up to $.22 above the par price.  Anything less than $.10 eventually will get bid above the par price

You really have to watch out for what you’re bidding for and how much you’re spending.  Establish a limit and never exceed your threshold.  That’s the only way of not overspending.  As a rule of thumb, anything between $.11 and $.15 is a fair price.  Above $.15 may be on the high end, and never exceed $.20 for each Box Tops.

Never the less, I went ahead and purchased 840 Box Tops. The result? The seller shipped 840 Box Tops.  None of them were expired.  Sweet!!  The earliest expiration date was 6/2018, which means my daughter can bring them to her school’s spring collection!

In conclusion, eBay is a reliable method for purchasing Box Tops without having to buy participating products at grocery stores.  And the spending can be minimized by finding the best deal.  You will always pay above the par price, but that’s anticipated as sellers still need to cover their shipping and posting fees.

Purchasing BTFE on Ebay Part 1

Yet again, I explored the world wide web find means to maximize BTFE earnings for my daughter’s school.  The best site for collecting BTFE is still eBay.   There were 123 results on eBay for BTFE.  eBay users selling BTFE clips for parents who are passionate about raising money for their kid’s school.  So what is the reward? A self-satisfaction that they contributed to a bigger educational cause.

Find below are some of the BTFE offers on eBay:

The buyer’s price for each BTFE ranges from $.04 to $.32.  For those that are under $.10, there is a high probability that the selling price will exceed the par price of $.10.  BTFE on eBay is a seller’s market, and they would not sell short as sellers want the largest margin possible.  It is then safe to assume that the selling price would be in a range of $.13 and $.32 for each BTFE.

Taking that in mind, I found a seller with the following product and a description.

The seller was selling 840 BTFE for $114.99 which equated to $0.14 each.  As expected, I was going to pay above the par price of $.10.  But, one benefit of buying from this seller was that I didn’t have to pay for shipping.  Surprisingly, some sellers charge as much as $10.00 for shipping.

Another thing I chose to buy from this seller was the description.  The earliest expiration date was 6/2018, which meant none of the BTFEs will be expired on the next collection date of  March 1st, 2018 or earlier.  So let the betting begin!

Box Tops for Education from ebay

In my previous post, I wrote about possibly buying Box Tops from eBay.  I mentioned several risks that are involved.  To recap, they were:

  • Box Tops expiration
  • Actual number of Box Tops can be different from what’s advertised
  • Honesty of the seller sending the Box Tops
  • Mode used to acquire the Box Tops (e.g., stolen or illegally acquired)

Set aside the mode used to acquire Box Tops, we can check boxes for the above 3 risks.

I went ahead and purchased from two sellers:

1st was a seller selling 373 Box Tops at a price of $50.  I purchased with a premium price of $0.034 above par at $0.134 per each Box Tops.

2nd was a seller selling 319 Box Tops at a price of $36.79.  I purchased with a premium price of $0.015 above par at $0.115 per each Box Tops.

Both sellers offered free shipping, which was a big plus.  Some require you to pay north of $3 for shipping alone.

Results
1st Seller:  There were 376 Box Tops where 3 of them were expiring on 11/1/17. So basically I actually received 373 really usable Box Tops20171006_153230.jpg

2nd Seller: There were 322 Box Tops and again there were 3 that were expiring on 11/1/17.  So basically I actually received 319 really usable Box Tops.

Although few Box Tops were close to the expiration date, the usable number of Box Tops actually yielded the advertised number.  I can conclude that eBay is a good source for buying Box Tops.  You have to be careful on the premium that you could be paying.  Some sellers want more than $0.10 above the par price.  Which could be a little too much to pay.  Anything from $0.11 to $0.18 may be worth betting for.

 Box Tops on Ebay

Okay, we’re doing our best to collect Box Tops or eBox Tops by purchasing everyday goods from General Mills and other participating products.  For those who want to accelerate and accumulate as much Box Tops as possible for your school, they can turn to eBay or Craigslist.  Unfortunately, I think the cost of Box Tops from eBay or Craiglist might be overpriced and poses several risks to consider before triggering the buy button. Here is an extensive list of sellers on Ebay.  I broke down the cost to the sellers’ net margin and the unit cost for each Box Top to the buyers.

Figure Description Unit Cost

As shown above, the price you’ll be paying for each Box Tops ranges from $0.11 to $0.26 for each Box Tops while the par price is $0.10.  The said unit price may not include the cost of shipping, which could inflate the actual cost of each Box Tops even more.  It is nearly impossible to get a 1:1 price for each Box Tops.  You really have to look hard and bid wisely.  Even if you could get a sweet deal, there are several risks that cannot be overlooked:

  • Box Tops expiration
  • Actual number of Box Tops can be different from what’s advertised
  • Honesty of the seller sending the Box Tops
  • Mode used to acquire the Box Tops (e.g., stolen or illegally acquired)

But if you don’t mind the slight price increase for each Box Tops and trust the seller to be honest and trustforthy.  Then, let the Bidding begin!!!!
